Independence
Independence must be structural. We accept no revenue from the industry on which we advise.
Candour
Families are rarely short of agreement. What they often lack is an adviser prepared to raise the matter that has not yet been said aloud.
Patience
Governance takes hold gradually, and an heir is prepared over years. We would rather be correct in the third meeting than persuasive in the first.
Proportion
Structure should reflect the family, not the ambitions of the adviser who designs it. Most families require less machinery than they are offered.
